Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before your first game. Still stuck? Get in touch — we're happy to help.
I've never played before — can I just come along?
Absolutely — that's exactly who our social sessions are for. Pickleball takes minutes to learn, paddles and balls are provided, and there's always someone ready to teach you the basics. Just register on GPN, book into a social session, and tell us you're new.
How do I join the club?
Everything runs through Global Pickleball Network (GPN). Create a free profile, join Tauranga Pickleball Club, and you'll be able to see the calendar and book into sessions and events.
What does it cost?
Our weekly social session is $10. Entry fees for monthly special events (DUPR MiLP and tournaments) vary by event and are shown when you register on GPN.
Do I need my own paddle or gear?
No — paddles and balls are available at sessions, so you can try the sport before buying anything. Just bring clean, non-marking court shoes, comfortable active wear and some water.
Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome, but we prioritise registered players and spaces can be limited — so booking on GPN is the best way to guarantee your spot and helps us plan the session.
What are the session times and venues?
We play on weekends at indoor venues around Tauranga, and the venue can vary with availability. The live calendar always has the next session's date, time and place — see the Play & Sessions page or our GPN club page.
What skill levels are welcome?
All of them. Our social sessions mix levels in a friendly way, and our DUPR events and tournaments use skill bands (roughly 2.0 through 6.0+) so you're matched with players of a similar standard.
What is DUPR?
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a global rating system that measures your skill level based on real match results. Many of our tournaments are DUPR-rated, so your games help build an accurate, portable rating you can use anywhere.
Is there anything for juniors?
Yes — we run a junior programme to help grow the next generation of players. Get in touch or check our GPN calendar for the latest junior sessions and dates.
How do I stay up to date?
Follow us on Facebook and join our WhatsApp group for the quickest updates, and bookmark our GPN club page for the full calendar.
